A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO PUBLIC INFORMATION.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. The purpose of this Act is to require government agencies, boards, commissions, authorities, and committees as defined under chapter 92, Hawaii Revised Statutes, to make their minutes available in hard copy form and electronic form through website posting.
SECTION 2. Section 92-9, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by amending subsection (b) to read as follows:
"(b) The minutes shall be public records and shall be available in hard copy form and by electronic posting on the website of the board, or if the board does not have a website, on the official website of the State of Hawaii or the official website of the appropriate county within thirty days after the meeting except where such disclosure would be inconsistent with section 92-5; provided that minutes of executive meetings may be withheld so long as their publication would defeat the lawful purpose of the executive meeting, but no longer."
SECTION 3. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on January 7, 2059.
