A BILL FOR AN ACT
relating to the university of hawaii.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Section 304A, Hawaii Revised Statutes is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:
"§304A- Reporting of student injury. (a) The appropriate University of Hawaii registrar shall collect and maintain updated emergency contact information for all students enrolled at the campus under the registrar's jurisdiction.
(b) The registrar shall make the information collected pursuant to subsection (a) available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, to University of Hawaii security personnel and emergency responders.
(c) Within the first twelve hours of any incident occurring on the property of the university or at a university sponsored event that results in the hospitalization of an enrolled student, University of Hawaii security personnel shall attempt to report the incident to the student's listed emergency contact. If security personnel are unable to contact the hospitalized student's emergency contact within the first twelve hours after hospitalization of the student, the appropriate University of Hawaii registrar that maintains the hospitalized student's emergency contact information shall thereafter be responsible for contacting the hospitalized student's emergency contact."
SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.

Requires the UH registrar to collect and maintain updated emergency contact information on enrolled students and provide the information to UH security personnel and emergency responders. Requires UH security to attempt to contact the student's emergency contact within 12 hours of the incident that results in the student's hospitalization and makes the appropriate UH registrar responsible for such contact after the first 12 hours.
