A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO EDUCATION.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Chapter 302A, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:
"§302A- Repair and maintenance; green building standards financing. The department shall set aside at least ten per cent of all general fund moneys appropriated for repair and maintenance, and moneys appropriated from funds established under sections 302A-1502.4 and 302A-1504.5, from each biennium that shall be used to fund the repair, maintenance, and upgrading of school facilities that will allow a school to meet the certification requirements of an internationally recognized green building certification system.
For the purposes of this section, "internationally recognized green building certification system" means a system that provides third-party verification that a building was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across various measures, including energy savings, water efficiency, carbon dioxide emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their effects."
SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
