RELATING TO FAMILY LEAVE.

Allows an employee with a family member in the United States armed forces who is on active duty or notified of a call to active duty, to use family leave for certain activities for which an employee may take military family leave under federal law.  Requires the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations in consultation with the Department of Defense to adopt administrative rules to implement those provisions.  Effective July 1, 2030.  (HB1109 HD1)

RELATING TO ARMED FORCES SERVICE MEMBERS.

Recognizes the federally prescribed DD Form 93, or its successor form, as an acceptable method of determining the person authorized to direct disposition of an armed forces service member's remains.  Effective January 7, 2059.  (HB49 HD1)

RELATING TO THE HAWAII NATIONAL GUARD.

Authorizes qualified members of the Hawaii national guard to use non-lethal weapons, including electric guns, when assisting civil authorities in disaster relief, civil defense, or law enforcement functions.  Effective January 7, 2059.  (HB1107 HD1)

RELATING TO COMMUNITY REINTEGRATION.

Requires the Department of Public Safety to determine the number of women who are eligible for reintegration into the community and contract with providers of gender-responsive community services to assist women in successfully transitioning back into the community.  Effective July 1, 2020.  (HB130 HD1)

·         By Web: Testimony may be submitted online if less than 4MB in size, at http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/emailtestimony.

 

·         In person:  1 copy of their testimony to the committee clerk, Room 231, State Capitol.

 

·         By fax:  Testimony may be faxed if less than 5 pages in length, to the Senate Sergeant-At-Arms Office at 586-6659 or 1-800-586-6659 (toll free for neighbor islands), at least 24 hours prior to the hearing.  When faxing, please indicate to which committee the testimony is being submitted and the date and time of the hearing.

 

Please note:  If you submit your written testimony after 4:00 p.m. the day prior to the hearing, please sign-in at the staff table to testify orally.  A copy of your testimony may not be available during the hearing but will be posted online for the public after the hearing. 

 

If you require special assistance or auxiliary aids or services to participate in the public hearing process (i.e., sign or foreign language interpreter or wheelchair accessibility), please contact the committee clerk 24 hours prior to the hearing so arrangements can be made.
