NOTICE OF INFORMATIONAL BRIEFING

The purpose of this informational briefing is to discuss the important work of clean and sober living programs and their recovery and rehabilitative focused efforts, as an effective option to better address homelessness, those suffering from either a mental condition or substance addiction, and those who are dually diagnosed, suffering from both a mental condition and drug addiction.

 

During the briefing, discussion will focus on "best practices" as well as legislation and policy that are deemed critical to creating a comprehensive framework to better address Hawaii's needy.  The briefing will also focus on input from the neighborhood and community on the issues presented.   

 

At the conclusion of the briefing, the chairs of the participating committees will summarize the suggested solutions ascertained from this briefing and review any proposed bills and resolutions to better address community services focused toward independence and self-sufficiency in Hawaii.

 

The following organizations or individuals have been invited to participate:

 

Department of Human Services

Alahou Clean and Sober Program

Hina Mauka

Catholic Charities of Hawaii

United Way

Victory Ohana

Other programs or individuals advocating for recovery and rehabilitation for the chronically homeless and those suffering from a drug addiction and/or mental condition

 

ONLY TESTIMONY FROM THOSE ON THE TESTIFIER LIST WILL BE ACCEPTED.

Persons on the testifiers list wishing to offer comments should submit testimony at least 24 hours prior to the hearing with a transmittal cover indicating:

 

 

·    Testifier's name with position/title and organization;

·    The Committee the comments are directed to;

·    The date and time of the hearing or briefing;

·    Measure number if applicable; and

·    The number of copies the Committee is requesting. 

 

While every effort will be made to copy, organize, and collate all testimony received, materials received on the day of the hearing/briefing or improperly identified or directed to the incorrect office, may be distributed to the Committee after the hearing.

 

Submit testimony in ONE of the following ways:

Testimony submitted will be placed on the Legislative Web site after the hearing adjourns.  This public posting of testimony on the Web site should be considered when including personal information in your testimony.

 

No public testimony will be accepted.
