HOUSING AND HOMELESSNESS

The Committees on Human Services; Water, Land, and Housing; Economic Development and Technology; Hawaiian Affairs; Health; Public Safety; Government Operations and Military Affairs; Agriculture; and Ways and Means invite partners from the private and public sector around the State to an informational briefing to discuss the state of homelessness and affordable housing in Hawaii.  Goals of this briefing include understanding what homeless and affordable housing projects are underway, identify existing public and private sector rentals that may be available if renovated.  Goals also include discussing potential opportunities to build affordable housing units and renovate existing public housing stock as well as identifying and locating appropriately zoned land where new affordable housing projects can be built that have adequate infrastructure capacity. 

 

 

Organizations that may play a meaningful role in addressing the challenges associated with homelessness and affordable housing are encouraged to participate in this discussion.  The Committees also hope to identify resources in the community that can assist individuals and families successfully transition into more stable and permanent housing and provide health, social services employment, training, and educational opportunities.
