RELATING TO HAWAII-GROWN PRODUCE.

Establishes the farm-to-school program in the department of education to increase the procurement of locally-grown fruits and vegetables.  Establishes the Hawaii-grown fresh fruit and vegetable program to increase school children's access to Hawaii produce.  Establishes the farmers to food banks pilot program. Effective July 1, 2020.  (HB1380 HD1)

RELATING TO YOUTH SUICIDE PREVENTION.

Provides funding for suicide prevention services within the Department of Education.  Effective July 1, 2020.  (HB691 HD1)

RELATING TO EDUCATION.

Requires school complexes to develop and implement college entrance examination prep courses for public high school students.  Requires students to complete prep course in order to graduate.

RELATING TO EDUCATION.

Creates the Facilities Alignment Commission to establish criteria for the selection of public schools to be constructed, expanded, consolidated, or closed, and recommend a list of areas for new school construction, and of schools for expansion, consolidation, or closure.  Requires the Board of Education to comply with these recommendations if the Legislature does not disapprove of them in their entirety.  (HB344 HD1)

Status

RELATING TO SPECIAL EDUCATION.

Changes terminology from "exceptional child" to "student with a disability" and clarifies criteria for designation; clarifies definition of services auxiliary to education required to be provided to students with a disability; clarifies eligibility standards for preschool students with a disability; clarifies charter school duties toward children with a disability; establishes certification criteria for persons who provide interpreting services for children who are deaf or hard of hearing and certain students with a disability.

DECISION MAKING TO FOLLOW

 

Persons wishing to offer comments should submit testimony at least 24 hours prior to the hearing with a transmittal cover indicating:

·     Testifier's name with position/title and organization;

·     The Committee the comments are directed to;

·     The date and time of the hearing;

·     Measure number; and

·     The number of copies the Committee is requesting. 

 

While every effort will be made to copy, organize, and collate all testimony received, materials received on the day of the hearing or improperly identified or directed to the incorrect office, may be distributed to the Committee after the hearing.

Testimony submitted will be placed on the Legislative Web site after the hearing adjourns.  This public posting of testimony on the Web site should be considered when including personal information in your testimony.
