A BILL FOR AN ACT
relating to acupuncture.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Chapter 453, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:
"§453‑ Practice of acupuncture. Notwithstanding any provision of chapter 436E or any other law to the contrary, the Hawaii medical board shall have sole regulatory jurisdiction over the practice of acupuncture by physicians, osteopathic physicians, and physician's assistants licensed pursuant to this chapter."
SECTION 2. Section 436E-3.5, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is repealed.
["§436E-3.5 Physicians and
osteopaths not exempt. Persons licensed under chapter 453 who
desire to practice acupuncture shall be subject to licensing under this
chapter."]
SECTION 3. Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2011.
