HOUSE RESOLUTION
urging the national football league to hold a preseason football game in hawaii.
WHEREAS, the State and the National Football League have enjoyed a mutually beneficial relationship for more than thirty years; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii has served as the host of the highly successful NFL All-Star game, known as the Pro Bowl, thirty-one times and possesses the necessary infrastructure, resources, and ancillary personnel to ensure that any National Football League game would be conducted in a safe and efficient manner; and
WHEREAS, locals and tourists alike enjoy and support National Football League games in Hawaii as evidenced by an average attendance of over fifty thousand people for each Pro Bowl game played in Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, the National Football League Pro Bowl game brings thousands of visitors and millions of dollars to the State each year and also provides an opportunity to showcase Hawaii's natural beauty to a wide television audience; and
WHEREAS, National Football League Pro Bowl games played in Hawaii have become a major economic asset to the National Football League and to the State; and
WHEREAS, holding a National Football League preseason game in Hawaii would provide significant marketing and public relations benefits to the State and the National Football League; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-sixth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2011, that the Legislature supports the prospect of hosting a preseason football game and urges the National Football League to hold a preseason game in Hawaii; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Commissioner of the National Football League, the Executive Director of the National Football League Players Association, the Governor, the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu, the Executive Director of the Hawaii Tourism Authority, and the Chairperson of the Stadium Authority.
