HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
urging the city and county of honolulu to construct a left-turn signal and left-storage lane for motorists traveling on lumiaina street and turning onto kamehameha highway to ease traffic congestion in waikele.
WHEREAS, as Hawaii communities grow, it is important to maintain and upgrade traffic infrastructure for safety and the movement of people and goods; and
WHEREAS, growing communities such as Waikele, Waipio, and Crestview require traffic infrastructure upgrades to help relieve traffic congestion in the area; and
WHEREAS, Waikele features a major tourist attraction, the Waikele Premium Outlets, and its sister destination, the Waikele Shopping Center; and
WHEREAS, these attractions, in addition to the surrounding community and Waikele Golf Club, draw hundreds of motorists to the area daily; and
WHEREAS, one of the traffic chokepoints in Waikele is the intersection of Lumiaina Street and Kamehameha Highway, which is a major traffic artery that connects the surrounding communities, such as Waipio and Crestview, and its tourist attractions; and
WHEREAS, for some time, area residents have
requested a left-turn signal and left-storage lane for motorists at the
intersection of Lumiaina Street and Kamehameha Highway, across from Crestview
and heading toward Waipio, to relieve traffic congestion; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-sixth
Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2011, the Senate
concurring, that the Department of Transportation Services of the City and
County of Honolulu is urged to fund and install a left-turn signal and
left-storage lane for motorists traveling on Lumiaina Street and turning onto
Kamehameha Highway in Waikele to relieve traffic congestion; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Director of Transportation Services of the City and County of Honolulu; Director of Transportation; Chief of Police of the Honolulu Police Department; and Chairperson of the Waipahu Neighborhood Board.
