A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO PUBLIC SAFETY.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. The legislature finds that the seawall that runs parallel to the shore from 2937 Kalakaua avenue to Coconut avenue in Waikiki, Oahu, has deteriorated extensively over the years. This has resulted in a safety hazard for residents and visitors alike. It is critical that funds be appropriated and expended to repair the numerous holes and breaks in the seawall to prevent injuries and protect the public who access the ocean at the seawall.
The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds to make necessary repairs to the seawall that runs parallel to the shore from 2937 Kalakaua avenue to Coconut avenue in Waikiki, Oahu.
SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $4,000,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2011-2012 for repairs to the seawall that runs parallel to the shore from 2937 Kalakaua avenue to Coconut avenue in Waikiki, Oahu.
The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of land and natural resources for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2011.
