A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO PUBLIC HOUSING.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. (a) The Hawaii public housing authority shall establish a two-year pilot project for Mayor Wright homes. The objective of the pilot project shall be to provide residents of Mayor Wright homes with increased safety and security from trespassers.
(b) Under the pilot project established pursuant to subsection (a), the Hawaii public housing authority shall conduct the following improvements and repairs at Mayor Wright homes:
(1) Design and install a surveillance system;
(2) Upgrade and repair fencing;
(3) Upgrade and repair lighting; and
(4) Rehabilitate the existing guard post.
(c) The Hawaii public housing authority shall submit a report on the safety and security measures implemented and its findings and recommendations from the pilot project to the legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the regular session of 2013.
(d) The pilot project shall cease to exist on June 30, 2013.
SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $ or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2011-2012 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2012-2013 for the pilot project for Mayor Wright homes, as described in this Act.
The sums appropriated shall be expended by the Hawaii public housing authority for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on January 7, 2059.
