SENATE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
encouraging issuance of a Request for Proposals to obtain new investors for the development of the World Trade Center, Honolulu.
WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii, through the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism, has been a registered member of the World Trade Centers Association since 1994; and
WHEREAS, the mission of the World Trade Centers Association is to foster a global World Trade Center network that promotes prosperity through trade and investment; and
WHEREAS, the specific purposes of the World Trade Centers Association are to encourage the expansion of world trade, promote international business relationships and understanding among nations, foster the increased participation in world trade by developing nations, and create and encourage mutual assistance and cooperation among members; and
WHEREAS, the World Trade Centers Association has implemented a number of programs for its members over the years aimed at achieving its mission and fulfilling its purposes, including:
(1) Organizing seminars and developing new services, often on a global scale;
(2) Serving as a clearinghouse for mutual assistance and cooperative exchange; and
(3) Forming strategic alliances with other private and governmental organizations; and
WHEREAS, the 2011 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders' Meeting will take place in Honolulu on November 12 and 13, 2011, providing the State with a unique opportunity to showcase Hawaii's rich cultural heritage and hospitality; and
WHEREAS, the 2011 APEC Leaders' Meeting will also highlight the vast potential that Hawaii and the Asia-Pacific region holds for American companies and workers, help shape the future of Asia-Pacific's regional architecture, and promote APEC's core mission of spurring mutually beneficial regional economic integration; and
WHEREAS, the 2011 APEC Leaders' Meeting provides the State with an unprecedented opportunity to enhance the World Trade Center, Honolulu, and attract new investors for further development; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-sixth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2011, the House of Representatives concurring, that the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism is encouraged to issue a Request for Proposals to obtain new investors for the development of the World Trade Center, Honolulu; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the enhancement of the World Trade Center, Honolulu, be developed in coordination with the Honolulu Rail Transit twenty-mile elevated rail line; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Director of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism; Director of Transportation; Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu; and Hawaii Tourism Authority.
