HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

urging Businesses that make products in hawaii to print labels in both english and hawaiian and requesting the legislature to set aside one day of each regular session to promote the hawaiian language through speech and products made in hawaii.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, in addition to English, the State recognizes Hawaiian as an official language of Hawaii; and

 

     WHEREAS, many states around the world recognize more than one language as an official language and thrive culturally; and

 

     WHEREAS, although Hawaiian is an official language of the State, it is not used enough in daily life; and

 

     WHEREAS, the State is committed to promoting the use of the Hawaiian language; and

 

     WHEREAS, more frequent use of Hawaiian would allow people to better learn the language; and

 

     WHEREAS, labels for products made in Hawaii should be written in both English and Hawaiian; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-sixth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2011, the Senate concurring, that the Legislature urges any business that makes or manufactures products in Hawaii to label their products in both English and Hawaiian to promote the use of the Hawaiian language; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature is requested to promote the Hawaiian language by setting aside one day of each Regular Session as Olelo Hawaii Day where Hawaiian will be spoken during the sessions and products made in Hawaii will be proudly shared on the floor of the Senate and House of Representatives; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the Director of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, who in turn is requested to distribute copies of this Resolution to any business that makes or manufactures products in Hawaii.
