Repeals the sunset provisions with respect to general excise tax exemptions and condominium submanagers, suboperators, and timeshare associations.

RELATING TO THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII SCHOOL OF TRAVEL INDUSTRY MANAGEMENT.

Establishes a school of travel industry management at the University of Hawaii at Manoa that is separate and independent of any school or college of business administration established by the university.

RELATING TO THE STATE FOUNDATION ON CULTURE AND THE ARTS.

Authorizes the use of moneys from the works of art special fund for state foundation on culture and the arts staff costs; sunsets June 30, 2015.

Allows for the disposition by auction of works of art acquired by the State.

RELATING TO ACTIVITY DESKS.

Establishes record keeping requirements for client trust accounts held by activity desks.  Clarifies that activity desks shall include registration numbers on all advertising materials.  Prohibits an activity desk from booking or placing a reservation for activities with an activity provider until payment is received or direct payment to the provider is arranged.  Repeals authority to substitute a bond or letter of credit for client trust account.

RELATING TO THE HAWAII TOURISM AUTHORITY.

Authorizes the Hawaii Tourism Authority to maintain the confidentiality of competitively sensitive information.  Preserves certain autonomy provisions of Act 58, SLH 2004.

RELATING TO SAINT DAMIEN DE VEUSTER DAY.

Changes the Father Damien DeVeuster Day on April 15 of each year to the Saint Damien de Veuster Day on May 10 of each year.

Makes the second Monday in October also known as Indigenous People Day.

DECISION MAKING TO FOLLOW

 

Persons wishing to offer comments should submit testimony at least 24 hours prior to the hearing with a transmittal cover indicating:

·     Testifier's name with position/title and organization;

·     The Committee the comments are directed to;

·     The date and time of the hearing;

·     Measure number; and

·     The number of copies the Committee is requesting.

WEB:     For comments less than 4MB in size, transmit from the Web page at http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/emailtestimony.

 

Testimony submitted will be placed on the Legislative Web site after the hearing adjourns.  This public posting of testimony on the Web site should be considered when including personal information in your testimony.
