NOTICE OF INFORMATIONAL BRIEFING

The purpose of this informational briefing is to bring awareness to the growing crisis of gang-related violence involving youth in Hawaii. Discussion will also touch upon community and agencies relationships dealing with "at risk" youth issues.
The briefing will look toward "best practices" in addressing gang-related youth violence and programs which have helped to empower youth in educational and work-related settings.
At the conclusion of the briefing, the Committee will highlight the viable solutions gathered to effectively address gang-related youth violence and crimes in Hawaii. The focus will be on empowering youth toward successful independence and ways to improve family and state communications and relationship dealing with youth. Programs which provide job training, counseling, and education for "at risk" youth will be discussed.
The following organizations have been invited to participate in this briefing:

Department of Human Services, Child Protective Services Branch
Parents for Righteousness
Halley Hobson, Generation Joshua
Edwin Flores, Hawaii Family Law Clinic, DBA, Ala Kuola
Adult Friends for Youth
Former and current gang members
Paxen Huli Ke Alo, LLC
Agencies and faith based organizations which receive state funding for youth programs and other related human services providers working with the state's youth.

Only testimony from people on the testifiers list will be accepted.
Persons on the testifiers list wishing to offer comments should submit testimony at least 24 hours prior to the hearing with a transmittal cover indicating:
· Testifier's name with position/title and organization;
· The Committee the comments are directed to;
· The date and time of the hearing;
· Measure number; and
· The number of copies the Committee is requesting.
While every effort will be made to copy, organize, and collate all testimony received, materials received on the day of the hearing or improperly identified or directed to the incorrect office, may be distributed to the Committee after the hearing.
Submit testimony in ONE of the following ways:

Testimony submitted will be placed on the Legislative Web site after the hearing adjourns. This public posting of testimony on the Web site should be considered when including personal information in your testimony.
