A growing shortage of physicians, both nationally and in Hawaii threatens to leave many without access to appropriate care even as our aging population has increasing demands for healthcare services. A fully staffed, well-trained health care workforce is a key component in providing quality health care for all Hawaii residents.
Act 219 of 2007 directed the John A. Burns School of Medicine to conduct an assessment of the physician workforce supply and demand in Hawaii.
This informational briefing will present the results of the study, summarizing physician shortages, comparing medical specialties, identifying key issues and discussing potential solutions.
FOR AMENDED NOTICES: If the notice is an amended notice, items that have been deleted are stricken through and items that have been added are underscored. If there is an item that is both underscored and stricken through, that item has been deleted from the agenda.
If you require special assistance or auxiliary aids or services to participate in the public hearing process (i.e., sign or foreign language interpreter, wheelchair accessibility, or parking designated for the disabled) please contact the committee clerk 24 hours prior to the hearing so arrangements can be made.
