NOTICE OF INFORMATIONAL BRIEFING

The purpose of this joint informational briefing is to receive and review information on providers' initiatives and programs to address Hawaii's homelessness issues.  In an effort to more effectively and efficiently address homelessness, the Committees will be analyzing issues such as capacity, waitlist, admission policies, and funding concerns as well as obstacles and barriers to providing housing and services to the homeless.

 

The Department of Human Services, and state and county public housing agencies are requested to provide an overview of their homeless programs including an update on any federal stimulus funds ear marked homelessness.

 

The purpose of the briefing is to provide the Committees on Housing and Human Services with possible frameworks to better address the homelessness issues as well as recognizing policies that have been successful in addressing this issue.

 

The Committees will also review and discuss public and private funding for programs under Housing and Human Services.

 

The following organizations have been invited to participate in this briefing:

 

State Department of Human Services, Hawaii Public Housing Authority,

Rental Housing and low-income Housing Programs, Agencies, and Faith Based Organizations, which receive state funding to address homelessness; and other related human services or housing providers providing emergencies and transition shelters.
