A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO RECYCLING.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Chapter 27, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:
"§27‑ Recycling bins. (a) Every agency and public school shall place recycling bins on the premises of each of their respective facilities, if feasible, in areas that are acceptable to the general public.
(b) A public school under subsection (a) shall be allowed to retain any revenue generated from the recycled products deposited into the bin on the grounds of that particular public school.
(c) As used in this section:
"Agency" means any executive department, board, bureau, office, or other political subdivision of the State, the judiciary, and the office of Hawaiian Affairs.
"Facility" means a building or similar structure owned or leased by, or otherwise under the jurisdiction of an agency.
"Public school" shall have the same meaning as in section 302A-101."
SECTION 2. Chapter 46, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:
"§46‑ Recycling bins. Every agency of a county shall place recycling bins on the premises of each of its facilities, if feasible, in areas that are acceptable to the general public.
As used in this section:
"Agency" means any executive department, board, bureau, office, or other political subdivision of a county.
"Facility" means a building or similar structure owned or leased by, or otherwise under the jurisdiction of an agency."
SECTION 3. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
