HOUSE RESOLUTION

Commending the Hawaii permanente medical group for fifty years of outstanding medical service to the people of hawaii.

     WHEREAS, the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group was established in 1960 as a fully independent professional physician corporation to provide compassionate, innovative, and high-quality medical care to all of famed industrialist Henry J. Kaiser’s Health Plan members in Hawaii on a prepaid basis; and

     WHEREAS, Hawaii Permanente Medical Group physicians have demonstrated, first and foremost, their compassion for their patients, their members, and the entire community through inspired volunteerism and service to Hawaii’s diverse communities, and by undertaking missions to provide their extensive medical expertise to those in desperate need of relief both here and around the globe; and

     WHEREAS, the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group is driven to develop innovative, progressive, and often visionary initiatives in health care as exemplified by its unique, synergistic, and exclusive partnership with the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals, its practice of evidence-based medicine, and its delivery of high quality, affordable health care on a daily basis; and

     WHEREAS, the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group has authored and led many clinical research studies that have advanced the community’s medical knowledge, enhanced the practice of medicine and care delivery, and led to important medical breakthroughs that have had lasting impacts on both the quality of care provided to patients as well as their quality of life; and

     WHEREAS, the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group has grown over the past fifty years to over 430 highly-trained physicians partnering with Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc., to provide comprehensive, coordinated care for over 225,000 Kaiser Permanente members and the people of Hawaii; and

     WHEREAS, the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group is the single largest medical group practice in the State of Hawaii, employing rigorously-screened and highly-qualified physicians who support Kaiser Permanente’s mission of providing quality care and comprehensive medical services in an accessible, affordable manner for members and the community; and

     WHEREAS, the delivery of comprehensive, prepaid, and fully-coordinated physician care supported by world-class data and information systems to ensure safety, reliability, and utmost quality focusing on the total health of patients, members, and the community is at the core of the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group’s care delivery philosophy; and

     WHEREAS, the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group now celebrates its 50th anniversary of serving the people of Hawaii with a sense of honor and responsibility, and is firmly committed to improving the lives of those they serve as well as ensuring that the next generation of Hawaii Permanente Medical Group physicians continue to uphold its legacy; now, therefore,

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2010, that this body hereby commends the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group for fifty years of outstanding medical service to the people of Hawaii, and extends its warmest aloha and best wishes for success in all future endeavors.
