HOUSE RESOLUTION
Strongly Urging the University of Hawaii and Leahi Hospital to reach a joint agreement on a coordinated master plan to provide innovative long-term care services.
WHEREAS, Leahi Hospital is a state-subsidized hospital established in 1901 and has a history of responding to Hawaii's elderly and chronically ill populations by providing long-term care inpatient services; and
WHEREAS, the State continues to suffer from a lack of long-term care alternatives that are accessible, affordable, and comprehensive; and
WHEREAS, at the same time, the State's aging population will have a greater need for affordable long-term care services; and
WHEREAS, Leahi Hospital continues to deal with and prepare for the challenges of existing fiscal constraints and emerging new payment systems for long-term care institutions and services; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2010, that Leahi Hospital and the University of Hawaii are strongly urged to reach a joint agreement on a coordinated master planning effort to provide innovative long-term care services; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Leahi Hospital and the University of Hawaii are requested to seek input from other participants and stakeholders with respect to long-term care services who may contribute to or benefit from the future development of the Leahi Hospital site, including neighboring organizations, community-based programs, and other long-term care providers; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation is requested to pursue any needed resources during the Regular Session of 2011 for the development of a master plan for the Leahi Hospital site; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Director of Health, the President of the University of Hawaii, the President of the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, the Chief Executive Officer of the Oahu Region of the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, and the Administrator of Leahi Hospital.
