HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

REQUESTING CASTLE & COOKE HAWAII, INC. TO WORK WITH THE OAHU ARTS CENTER AND THE COMMUNITY TO SECURE AN APPROPRIATE SITE FOR AN ARTS CENTER.

 


     WHEREAS, arts education promotes the successful development of young children and the celebration of arts helps bring families and communities together; and

 

     WHEREAS, Central Oahu, Leeward Oahu, and the North Shore, among Hawaii's fastest growing communities, desire to promote and encourage the love of the arts by supporting an arts education center and performing arts theater in Central Oahu to be known as the Oahu Arts Center (Center); and

 

     WHEREAS, the Center would provide for community members of all ages with arts education and an opportunity to participate in art activities throughout the year; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Center would provide a state-of-the-art facility to showcase, not only the talent and work of local artists in every medium, as well as the artistry of national and international musicians and artists; and

 

     WHEREAS, development of the Center would help stimulate economic development of local communities and businesses by generating community participation in the Center, creating jobs for those constructing and working at the Center, and attracting tourists and residents to the events to be featured at the Center; and

 

     WHEREAS, Castle & Cooke, Inc. has reportedly committed to donating three acres of land in Mililani Mauka for the development of the Center in the past; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2010, the Senate concurring, that Castle & Cooke Hawaii, Inc., is requested to work together with the Oahu Arts Center and the community to secure an appropriate site for an arts center; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Governor, the members of Hawaii's congressional delegation, the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu, the Council Chair of the City and County of Honolulu, and the President of Castle & Cooke Hawaii, Inc.
