A BILL FOR AN ACT
making an emergency appropriation from the emergency and budget reserve fund for education.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. This Act is recommended by the governor for immediate passage in accordance with article VII, section 9, of the Hawaii Constitution.
SECTION 2. The purpose of this Act is to provide the funding necessary to allow the children of Hawaii to receive the best education possible by attending school on instructional days that have been turned into furlough days because of the State's shortfall in revenues.
SECTION 3. Notwithstanding the provisions of section 328L-3(e), Hawaii Revised Statutes, there is appropriated out of the emergency and budget reserve fund of the State of Hawaii the sum of $50,000,000 for fiscal year 2009-2010 to the general fund of the State of Hawaii.
SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
