A BILL FOR AN ACT

RELATING TO EDUCATION.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

     SECTION 1.  Chapter 302A, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§302A-  Basic educational staffing. The board of education shall develop a minimum staffing formula for off-ratio positions such as principals, administrative staff, counselors, librarians, resource teachers, custodians, and other support staff in schools having fewer than four hundred students that have no neighboring schools within five miles.  These positions shall be in addition to the weighted student formula."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
