A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

making an appropriation for the state commission on fatherhood.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  The legislature established the state commission on fatherhood in 2003 in recognition of the important and unique role fathers play in the lives of their children, families, and communities.  Act 156, Session Laws of Hawaii 2003, as amended by Act 148, Session Laws of Hawaii 2005, and Act 232, Session Laws of Hawaii 2006, as amended by Act 190, Session Laws of Hawaii 2007, directs the commission to serve in an advisory capacity to state agencies to promote healthy family relationships between parents and children.  In recognition of the commission's value and the need to continue to promote and support healthy families in Hawaii, the legislature established the commission as a permanent entity within the State in 2007. 

     The purpose of this Act is to make an appropriation for the state commission on fatherhood.

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $           or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2010-2011 for the operations of the state commission on fatherhood, including:

     (1)  Allowing more neighbor island participation; and

     (2)  Sponsoring community awareness activities that encourage fathers to take an active role in the care of their children.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of human services for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2010.
