HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

CONGRATULATING and honoring JAMES CAMPBELL HIGH SCHOOL FOR INNOVATIVE AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, James Campbell High School sustains the student body with opportunities to excel in various extracurricular activities that include nineteen athletic programs and sixty-one clubs and organizations all of which are officially recognized and chartered by the Student Association in addition to offering Advanced Placement courses covering fourteen distinct fields; and

 

     WHEREAS, the people of Hawaii take great pride in recognizing and honoring the notable achievements and contributions of educators, who, through their extraordinary dedication and personal efforts, have significantly improved the quality of education for students in the State and stemming from this dedication, James Campbell High School has been bestowed with many honors in the academia field, including arts and sports programs, in addition to national and state awards earned by the school's principal and teachers over the years that include the Hawaii State Counselor of the Year, Presidential Award of Excellence in Science and Math Teaching, Milken Award, National High School Principal of the Year, National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, and most recently, the school now has its first Nationally Certified Teacher; and

 

     WHEREAS, through the leadership of Principal Dr. Gail Awakuni, James Campbell High School has joined the Advanced Via Individual Determination (AVID) program and out of more than 3,386 schools in 48 states and 15 foreign countries, the school has been distinguished as a model AVID site and ranks among the top ten percent of AVID schools nationwide and has been chosen as a National Demonstration Site for the second year in a row and became the only Hawaii public high school so far to become an International Baccalaureate World School; and

 

     WHEREAS, James Campbell High School was one of the few high schools to achieve Adequate Yearly Progress by meeting Hawaii's performance targets under the federal No Child Left Behind Act in reading and math and also in receipt of the Distinguished School Award, for demonstrating academic proficiency and progress as part of the Hawaii Distinguished Schools program which in turn has resulted in as many as fourteen Valedictorians and its seniors garnering the most scholarships statewide; and

 

     WHEREAS, the students are putting into practice that which their teachers have instructed them and the results have generated an extremely talented James Campbell High School Sabertron Robotic's team that will be competing in the 2010 World Championships in Dallas, Texas this May, after having captured the Excellence Award, the top honor, at the VEX Pan-American Robotics competition; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2010, that this body hereby congratulates and honors James Campbell High School in recognition of the significant role it has played in our city, state, and nation's history of providing great leaders and extends its warmest Aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
