HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
URGING VETERINARIANS PRACTICING IN HAWAII TO ALLOW ANIMAL OWNERS TO FILL PRESCRIPTIONS AT A PHARMACY or other entity OF THEIR CHOICE.
WHEREAS, the practice of veterinary medicine includes prescribing drugs for animals; and
WHEREAS, many veterinarians dispense the drugs that they prescribe; and
WHEREAS, the Legislature understands there have been instances where veterinarians practicing in Hawaii have insisted on dispensing the prescribed drugs themselves, and refused to allow animal owners to have their prescriptions filled by another entity; and
WHEREAS, animal owners should be able to choose the pharmacy or other entity that dispenses prescriptions for their animals; and
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2010, the Senate concurring, that veterinarians practicing in Hawaii are urged to allow animal owners to have prescriptions dispensed at a pharmacy or other entity of their choice; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the President of the Hawaii Veterinary Medical Association, the President of the Honolulu Veterinary Society, and to the Chairperson of the Board of Veterinary Examiners.
