HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
urging condominium associations and planned community associations to minimize expenses to reduce the need to increase maintenance fees and dues.
WHEREAS, the worldwide global recession has resulted in record unemployment in the United States; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii's unemployment rate is approximately seven per cent; and
WHEREAS, in addition, many members of Hawaii's workforce have been furloughed, are underemployed, or have had their working hours reduced; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii has a significant number of residents that live in condominiums or planned communities; and
WHEREAS, condominium associations and planned community associations typically assess their members fees or dues needed to ensure the day-to-day operation of the condominium or planned community; and
WHEREAS, despite reductions in wages and rising unemployment, many condominium associations and planned community associations have increased the amount of maintenance fees or dues being or to be charged to their members; and
WHEREAS, it is becoming increasingly difficult for many members of condominium associations and planned community associations to continue to pay ever-increasing maintenance fees and dues; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2010, the Senate concurring, that condominium associations and planned community associations throughout Hawaii are urged to minimize their expenditures as much as possible in order to reduce the need to increase maintenance fees or dues; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Director of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, who in turn, is requested to transmit additional copies of this Resolution to the chairperson of the board of directors of each condominium association and planned community association that is registered with the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs.
