A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to A veterans' memorial.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  The purpose of this Act is to establish a memorial to the veterans of the Persian Gulf War, Operation Desert Storm, and Afghanistan-Iraq War, as well as to women veterans of World War II.

     SECTION 2.  The department of accounting and general services, department of defense, and office of veterans' services are hereby directed to jointly develop a plan to create memorials to the veterans of the Persian Gulf War, Operation Desert Storm, and Afghanistan-Iraq War and to women veterans of World War II.

     A public hearing shall be held to receive comments or input from interested organizations and residents.

     SECTION 3.  The department of accounting and general services, department of defense, and office of veterans' services are further directed to submit a report to the legislature of their findings and recommendations no later than January 1, 2012, with an interim status report to the legislature no later than January 1, 2011.

     SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
