Status

RELATING TO JUDGMENTS.

Amends the uniform foreign money-judgments recognition act with regard to defamation judgments acquired in foreign courts.  Enforceability depends on the free speech and free press protections afforded by the defamation law applied by the foreign court.

Status

RELATING TO STATUTORY REVISION:  AMENDING OR REPEALING VARIOUS PROVISIONS OF THE HAWAII REVISED STATUTES AND THE SESSION LAWS OF HAWAII FOR THE PURPOSE OF CORRECTING ERRORS AND REFERENCES, CLARIFYING LANGUAGE, AND DELETING OBSOLETE OR UNNECESSARY PROVISIONS.

Amends or repeals various provisions of the Hawaii Revised Statutes and the Session Laws of Hawaii for the purpose of correcting errors and references, clarifying language, and deleting obsolete or unnecessary provisions.

RELATING TO PUBLIC AGENCY MEETINGS.

Authorizes the electronic filing of meeting notices under part I of chapter 92, Hawaii Revised Statutes, on the state calendar.

RELATING TO MEDICAL TORTS.

Places a ceiling on non-economic damages in medical torts involving neurologists and neurosurgeons.

Status

RELATING TO MEDICAL TORTS.

Limits the amount awarded for non-economic damages in medical tort cases to $750,000 aggregate and $250,000 per physician, healthcare provider, healthcare facility, and any other involved parties.  Sets the award limit for non-economic damages in cases of gross negligence at $3,000,000.

Status

RELATING TO TEMPORARY RESTRAINING ORDERS.

Authorizes family court, when issuing a temporary restraining order, to award exclusive care of a pet animal and enjoin the restrained party from having any contact with the pet animal.

RELATING TO OFFENSES AGAINST PUBLIC ORDER.

Prohibits possession of gaff designed to be attached to gamecock or other fighting fowl.

RELATING TO THEFT IN THE SECOND DEGREE.

Increases the minimum value of stolen property or services constituting theft in the second degree from $300 to $1000.

Status

RELATING TO COMMUNICATIONS FRAUD.

Establishes the offense of communication service fraud in the first and second degrees.  Provides civil remedies.  Authorizes forfeiture.  Establishes evidentiary presumption.  Adds definitions.

Persons wishing to offer comments should submit testimony at least 24 hours prior to the hearing with a transmittal cover indicating:

·     The date and time of the hearing;

·     Measure number; and
