SENATE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

paying tribute to REPRESENTATIVE ROBERT H. "BOB" NAKASONE and his legacy by naming one of the Maui medical facilities in his honor.

WHEREAS, Representative Robert H. "Bob" Nakasone dedicated his life to serving the people of Maui and the State of Hawaii; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Nakasone will be remembered as a leader, mediator, and champion for the Maui community; and

     WHEREAS, serving on the Maui County Council for ten years, Representative Nakasone was truly a voice of the people, working in a non-partisan manner to achieve results for the residents he represented; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Nakasone dedicated sixteen years of his life to serving in the Hawaii State House of Representatives, representing Kahului, Wailuku, Puunene, Paia, and Spreckelsville, where he was vice chairman of the Labor and Public Employment Committee and where he worked tirelessly year-round to promote, improve understanding of, and ensure funding for projects and programs needed by the Maui communities he served; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Nakasone championed the improvement of health care for the island of Maui and many acknowledge that without his work and persistence many health care advancements for that island would not have been realized; and

WHEREAS, throughout his career, in addition to his commitment to improving health care for Maui, Representative Nakasone also played an important role in securing funding for many other programs and projects for Maui's communities, including critical infrastructure projects such as capital improvements for Kahului Harbor and the Kahului Airport; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Nakasone exemplifies the meaning of "public service" in its truest sense and his vision, hard work, and integrity have resulted in health care and other improvements that have made an extraordinary difference to the people and communities of Maui, leaving a sound legacy upon which future generations can thrive and build; now, therefore,

     BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2009, the House of Representatives concurring, requesting that a tribute be paid to Representative Robert H. "Bob" Nakasone and his legacy by naming one of the Maui medical facilities in his honor; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Governor, Director of Health, and the President of the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
