SENATE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
requesting the Obama administration to host a United nations Climate Change conference in hawaii in 2010.
WHEREAS, in December 2009, the United Nations Climate Change Conference will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark, to continue its work on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change; and
WHEREAS, twelve thousand to fifteen thousand persons will attend the 2009 conference, more than attended the same conference when it was held in Kyoto, Japan, or Bali, Indonesia; and
WHEREAS, this conference has in the past addressed environmental issues that are important to Hawaii, such as climate change, carbon emissions, and sea-level rise; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii has the air lift capacity, conference facilities, hotels, and other visitor facilities necessary to easily accommodate an international conference of this size and magnitude; and
WHEREAS, a United Nations Climate Change Conference would provide economic stimulus to Hawaii through its visitor industry, as well as showcase Hawaii's beautiful environment; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2009, the House of Representatives concurring, that the President of the United States is requested to propose and encourage the United Nations to hold a Climate Change Conference in Hawaii in 2010; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the President of the United States, the United State's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, the members of Hawaii's congressional delegation, and the Secretary General of the United Nations.
