HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

commending coastal windows, inc., and its vice president Mr. bob barrett for receiving the 2008 secretary of defense employer support freedom award.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, with almost one-half of the United States military comprising the National Guard and Reserve, the Department of Defense shares these citizen warriors with their civilian employers, many of whom provide significant support to their employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve; and

 

     WHEREAS, in a series of employer recognition awards given by the Department of Defense, the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award is the highest recognition given by the United States Government to employers for their support of their employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve; and

 

     WHEREAS, instituted in 1996 under the auspices of the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense agency established in 1972 whose mission is to gain and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve Service by recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of the law, and resolving conflicts through mediation, the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award was created to publicly recognize employers who provide exceptional support to their National Guard and Reserve employees; and

 

     WHEREAS, a family-owned and -operated construction business located in Waipahu, Hawaii which employs 62 people, COASTAL WINDOWS, INC., maintains all of its deployed employees' benefits for the entire length of deployment to help ease the burden on families of deployed employees and often sends care packages to its deployed employees, maintains regular contact with them and their family members, and ensures that spouses are invited to company functions; and

 

     WHEREAS, COASTAL WINDOWS, INC., extends its support of the military to the community by participating in the Marine Corps "Toys for Tots" program each year and has also provided a window for a SWAT vehicle used by the Army Rangers; and

 

     WHEREAS, on September 18, 2008, COASTAL WINDOWS, INC., and its Vice President Mr. Bob Barrett, who has been described as "a loving boss with a big heart," were honored with the 2008 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2009, that this body hereby congratulates and commends COASTAL WINDOWS, INC., and its Vice President, Mr. Bob Barrett, for receiving the 2008 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award and becoming the first company in Hawaii to earn this honor, and extends to them its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
