HOUSE RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZes and commends DALLAS CARTER AS AN OUTSTANDING ROLE MODEL FOR GOOD HEALTH.

     WHEREAS, while the natural beauty of Hawaii is recognized throughout the world, the real beauty of our island state lies in its people and their accomplishments; and

     WHEREAS, statistics indicate that in the United States, about sixty-six percent of adults are either overweight or obese which is a major cause of heart disease, diabetes, and stroke; and

     WHEREAS, Mililani resident DALLAS CARTER recognized in his own life the health risks associated with being overweight and, inspired by a desire to be there to take care of his family, became determined to make changes to improve his health; and

     WHEREAS, over the course of three years, DALLAS CARTER combined good nutrition with exercise to lose 190 pounds, realizing his weight loss goal and gaining a new outlook on life; and

     WHEREAS, DALLAS CARTER was one of eight finalists chosen out of thousands of contestants across the nation in Beachbody.com's Million Dollar Body Game Giveaway and received a $10,000 prize as the winner of his age category and was ultimately was awarded the grand prize of $250,000 in recognition of his outstanding weight loss success; and

     WHEREAS, while the monetary rewards associated with DALLAS CARTER's weight loss will be of great benefit to his family, the greater reward is increased good health, well-being, and the knowledge that he took the steps necessary to address a life-threatening health condition and now has the expectation of enjoying his family far into the future; now, therefore,

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2009, that this body hereby recognizes and commends DALLAS CARTER for his dedication and commitment to improving his health, and for being an outstanding example of what can be accomplished with hard work and a determination not to give up in the face of a seemingly overwhelming challenge.
