HOUSE RESOLUTION
requesting the Department of Transportation to encourage each holder of a concession contract at a state Airport to give first right of refusal to local vendors to supply goods, wares, merchandise, and services to the concession.
WHEREAS, tourism is still Hawaii's main economic engine and the revenues generated as a result of visitors from around the world contribute greatly in sustaining Hawaii's businesses; and
WHEREAS, Honolulu is the gateway to Hawaii and offers travelers within one city an abundance of opportunities to explore and experience a state rich in history and diverse in culture; and
WHEREAS, it is in the public's interest to promote local culture at the entry to Hawaii, with the collaboration of state agencies and local vendors in an effort to emphasize the significance and presence of local businesses in Hawaii's communities; and
WHEREAS, it is also in the public interest to assist local vendors who supply goods, wares, merchandise, and services to concessions at Hawaii's airports to the extent that their continued operation would help to stabilize and strengthen the State's economy; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2009, that the Department of Transportation is requested to encourage each holder of a concession contract at a State airport to give first right of refusal to local vendors to supply goods, wares, merchandise, and services to the concession; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Director of Transportation.
