HOUSE RESOLUTION
REQUESTING THE University of Hawaii's public policy center TO MEET WITH, AND ADOPT THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE KANAKA MAOLI COMMITTEE WITH RESPECT TO THE cENTER'S REVIEW OF THE 2050 SUSTAINABILITY PLAN.
WHEREAS, the Hawaii 2050 Sustainability Plan is a guide for government agencies, businesses, and community leaders to develop policies for the future of the State; and
WHEREAS, the 2050 Sustainability Plan was developed by the Hawaii 2050 task force that consisted of a broad cross-section of the community that was committed to creating a comprehensive and viable sustainability plan; and
WHEREAS, the University of Hawaii's Public Policy Center was directed by the Legislature to review the plan and develop defined data, data sources, and benchmarks for each of the major goals of the plan; and
WHEREAS, the Public Policy Center was also directed to consult with leaders and organizations relevant to the Hawaii 2050 sustainability plan; and
WHEREAS, in response to the 2050 Sustainability Plan, the kanaka maoli or the indigenous people of Hawaii formed the Kanaka Maoli Committee that developed recommendations for the plan; and
WHEREAS, the Kanaka Maoli Committee is looking forward to meeting with the Center to ensure that all relevant issues, objectives, and goals of the kanaka maoli are included in the 2050 Sustainability Plan; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2009, that the University of Hawaii's Public Policy Center is requested to meet with, and adopt the recommendations of the Kanaka Maoli Committee in its review of the 2050 Sustainability Plan; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Governor, the University of Hawaii's Public Policy Center, the Kanaka Maoli Committee, and the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.
