HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
urging the Department of Land and Natural Resources to allocate funds for beautification and restoration projects on east Maui to eliminate invasive species, restore instream flows, and provide for additional conservation and resources enforcement personnel.
WHEREAS, Hana, on the island of Maui, is a frequent destination of tourists and the trip to Hana from Kahului along the famed Hana Highway is renowned for its winding curves and breathtaking views; and
WHEREAS, Hana Highway stretches fifty-two miles between the two towns and boasts more than fifty bridges, six hundred curves, and pristine beaches along one of the most dramatic coastlines in the State; and
WHEREAS, beautification projects that benefit Hana promote the visitor industry on the island of Maui and throughout the State by maintaining a highly desired destination sought after by visitors; and
WHEREAS, resources are needed for beautification and restoration projects that would enable east Maui to eliminate invasive species, restore instream flows, and provide for additional conservation personnel; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2009, the Senate concurring, that the Department of Land and Natural Resources is urged to allocate funds for beautification and restoration projects in east Maui to eliminate invasive species, restore instream flows, and provide for additional conservation and resources enforcement personnel; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Chairperson of the Board of Land and Natural Resources.
