HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

urging the office of elections to not transmit vote information over telephone lines and the internet.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, maintaining public confidence in the voting process is an issue of paramount importance; and

 

     WHEREAS, voting information that is transmitted over telephone lines or the Internet may be susceptible to tampering; and

 

     WHEREAS, the integrity of the voting process can be protected by printing the information contained in voting machines, including automatic tabulating equipment, and placing the printed information into locked containers for transport to the State Count Center; and

 

     WHEREAS, where voting machines use electronic storage devices to record voting information, the security of the electronic information can be protected by placing the storage devices in locked containers for transport to the State Count Center; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2009, the Senate concurring, that the Office of Elections and all county clerks are urged not to authorize, permit, or receive vote information transmitted over telephone lines and the Internet; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Chief Election


Officer, the Chairperson of the Elections Commission, and the Clerk of each county.
