HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

urging the STATE of hawaii's board of education to change the school name of noelani elementary school to president barack Hussein obama II elementary school and/or to change the school name of president william mckinley high school to president barack hussein obama ii high school.

 

 

 

     WHEREAS, it is of great significance that a kama‘āina son of Hawai‘i, born and raised in the Hawaiian Islands be elected as the 44th president of the United States of America; and

 

     WHEREAS, on January 20, 2009, marked the inauguration of President Barack Hussein Obama II as the 44th president of the United States of America; and

 

     WHEREAS, an appropriate tribute to mark the election of the first U.S. President from Hawai‘i would be to name an educational institution for him; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Hawai‘i State Board of Education and the Hawai‘i State Department of Education determines the names of Hawai‘i public schools; and

 

     WHEREAS, President Barack Hussein Obama II began his education at Noelani Elementary School and graduated from Punahou School; and

 

     WHEREAS, President William McKinley High School was named after an individual influential in the annexation of the Hawaiian Islands to the United States of America; and

 

     WHEREAS, President Barack Hussein Obama II serves as an inspiration of hope and leadership for Hawai‘i and future generations; and

 

     WHEREAS, President Barack Hussein Obama II's roots to Hawai‘i will encourage the world to learn more and experience Hawai‘i's unique and rich island-culture, beauty, diversity and spirit of aloha; and

    

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawai‘i, Regular Session of 2009, the Senate concurring, that the Hawai‘i State Board of Education and Superintendant of Education are urged to change the name of Noelani Elementary School to President Barack Hussein Obama II Elementary School and/or to change the name of President William McKinley High School to President Barack Hussein Obama II High School; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the members of the Hawai‘i State Board of Education and Superintendant of Education.
