MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR THE HAWAII CAPITAL CULTURAL DISTRICT. Establishes the Hawai‘i capital cultural district task force to review the current operations of the Hawaii state art museum and its long range plans for operations and growth, with respect to the museum's location in the No. 1 Capitol District Building located in the Hawai‘i capital cultural district; appropriates funds to the SFCA for the work of the task force; requires a report to the 2009 legislature; sunsets the task force June 30, 2009. RELATING TO LAND ACQUISITION. Directs the governor, or the governor's designee, to acquire lands owned by Kuilima Resort Company, Oaktree Capital, LLC, and their successors in interest, commonly known as Turtle Bay Hotel and Resort located in Kahuku, Oahu. (SB2423 HD1)

RELATING TO THE RENTAL MOTOR VEHICLE SURCHARGE TAX. Extends the $1 per day surcharge on rental motor vehicles beyond September 1, 2008, and deposits the money into the State Highway Fund. (SB2501 HD1)

RELATING TO CREATIVE MEDIA. Establishes the system‑wide, statewide academy for creative media program in statute under the University of Hawaii. Amends Act 11, special session 2007, to refocus the purpose section, delete all references to a lease agreement with PBS Hawaii, and provide that funds shall be expended to expand the programs and facilities of the academy for creative media program at a system‑wide, statewide level directed to the west Oahu‑Kapolei region. DECISION MAKING TO FOLLOW
Persons wishing to offer comments should submit testimony at least 24 hours prior to the hearing with a transmittal cover indicating:
· Testifier's name with position/title and organization;
· The Committee the comments are directed to;
· The date and time of the hearing;
· Measure number; and
· The number of copies the Committee is requesting.
