The purpose of this informational briefing is to hear from representatives of the College Board Program-Hawaii on, "How the College Board Can Help Hawaii Achieve its Education Goals". This is a one-hour presentation excluding question and answer time.

Eleyne Fia, Career and College Counselor, Campbell High School, Ewa Beach
Joan Yanagi, Intermediate School Administrator, Hawaii Department of Education
Discussion Topics:
I. How the College Board can serve as resource in helping HI meet its education goals.
- Improving Student Achievement through Standards-Based Education
- Sustaining Comprehensive Support for ALL Students
- Continuously Improving Performance and Quality
II. The recently released AP Report to the Nation Report, highlighting Hawaii’s progress in students
taking and passing the AP exam.
III. How Hawaii is currently using College Board programs to ensure more students are college-ready.
- To establish a curriculum based on college readiness standards
- To increase student participation in rigorous coursework
o Using PSAT to identify students for participation in AP: Eleyne Fia, Career and College Counselor, Campbell High School, Ewa Beach
o Professional Development for Teachers in CO: Joan Yanagi, HI DOE, former Elementary School Teacher, Intermediate School Administrator
- To monitor progress with assessment
- To facilitate college/career/financial planning
IV. Model Programs
- How are other states securing available external funding for College Board programs to achieve stated goals?
- How are other states using College Board programs to increase college enrollment?
