RELATING TO EDUCATION. Directs the department of education to conduct a study of converting hard cover textbooks to e-books. Report to 2009 legislature.

RELATING TO MINORS. Requires the Board of Education to establish an Internet safety policy for minors with respect to the use of computers that have Internet access in public schools and libraries.

RELATING TO EDUCATION. Requires the Hawaii teacher standards board to adopt rules to align state teacher licensing requirements with federal standards. Limits the duration of employment of an emergency unlicensed hire of the department of education to three years.

RELATING TO THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII. Establishes a working group to consider the feasibility of creating an institute of robotics within the University of Hawaii college of engineering; requires report on its findings and recommendations to the 2010 legislature. (SD1)

· By fax: Testimony may be faxed if less than 5 pages in length, to the Senate Sergeant-At-Arms Office at 586-6659 or 1-800-586-6659 (toll free for neighbor islands), at least 24 hours prior to the hearing. When faxing, please indicate to which committee the testimony is being submitted and the date and time of the hearing.
· By Email: Testimony may be emailed if less than 5 pages in length, to testimony@capitol.hawaii.gov. Please indicate to which committee the testimony is being submitted and the date and time of the hearing. Email sent to individual offices or any other Senate office will not be accepted.
