STAND. COM. REP. NO. 3218
Honolulu, Hawaii
RE: S.C.R. No. 79
Honorable Colleen Hanabusa
President of the Senate
Twenty-Fourth State Legislature
Regular Session of 2008
State of Hawaii
Madam:
Your Committees on Health and Human Services and Public Housing, to which was referred S.C.R. No. 79 entitled:
"SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION REQUESTING TUBERCULOSIS SCREENING AND TREATMENT FOR RESIDENTS OF PUBLIC HOUSING AND EMERGENCY TRANSITIONAL SHELTER HOUSING,"
beg leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this measure is to determine the appropriate and effective public health practices that can be implemented to screen and treat individuals residing in public housing and emergency shelters for tuberculosis.
Your Committees received testimony in support of the intent of this measure from one individual.
Your Committees find that tuberculosis is a highly infectious communicable disease that poses a serious public health risk. Many migrants to Hawaii who are in need of housing assistance also may be in need of serious medical care, particularly tuberculosis screening and treatment. Your Committees further find that this measure will help to determine the appropriate and effective public health practices that can be implemented to screen and treat individuals residing in public housing and emergency shelters for tuberculosis.
As affirmed by the records of votes of the members of your Committees on Health and Human Services and Public Housing that are attached to this report, your Committees concur with the intent and purpose of S.C.R. No. 79 and recommend its adoption.
Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committees on Health and Human Services and Public Housing,
