STAND. COM. REP. NO. 3519
Honolulu, Hawaii
RE: S.C.R. No. 95
Honorable Colleen Hanabusa
President of the Senate
Twenty-Fourth State Legislature
Regular Session of 2008
State of Hawaii
Madam:
Your Committee on Ways and Means, to which was referred S.C.R. No. 95 entitled:
"SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION REQUESTING A STUDY ON ESTABLISHING A HAWAII STATE GEOLOGICAL SURVEY,"
begs leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this measure is to request the Legislative Reference Bureau to conduct a comprehensive study on establishing a Hawaii State Geological Survey.
The measure also requests that the Legislative Reference Bureau consult with interested parties and organizations in the preparation of the study.
Comments on this measure were submitted by the Legislative Reference Bureau.
Your Committee finds that Hawaii is affected by a wide variety of geological activity, and that responsibility for monitoring those activities is distributed among a variety of state and county agencies. Your Committee further finds that the formation of a state geological survey would consolidate these roles into one agency and would allow the State to seek federal funds to perform geological studies that would provide a broader range of information about geological activity in the State.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Ways and Means that is attached to this report, your Committee concurs with the intent and purpose of S.C.R. No. 95 and recommends its adoption.
Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Ways and Means,
|
