STAND. COM. REP. NO. 3202
Honolulu, Hawaii
RE: S.C.R. No. 108
Honorable Colleen Hanabusa
President of the Senate
Twenty-Fourth State Legislature
Regular Session of 2008
State of Hawaii
Madam:
Your Committees on Transportation and International Affairs and Intergovernmental and Military Affairs, to which was referred S.C.R. No. 108 entitled:
"SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION ENCOURAGING THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AND COUNTY TRANSPORTATION AGENCIES TO ACTIVELY SEEK OPPORTUNITIES TO CONSTRUCT MORE ROUNDABOUTS INSTEAD OF SIGNALIZED, RIGHT-ANGLE INTERSECTIONS IN THE STATE,"
beg leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this measure is to encourage construction of more roundabouts instead of signalized, right-angle intersections in the State.
The Department of Transportation (Department) submitted comments on this measure.
Your Committees support the continuing consideration of traffic safety alternatives, and find that this measure will ensure review of options, such as roundabouts, without mandating their use if the transportation agencies find the alternatives inappropriate for specific intersections.
As affirmed by the records of votes of the members of your Committees on Transportation and International Affairs and Intergovernmental and Military Affairs that are attached to this report, your Committees concur with the intent and purpose of S.C.R. No. 108 and recommend its adoption.
Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committees on Transportation and International Affairs and Intergovernmental and Military Affairs,
