Madam:

 

     Your Committees on Agriculture and Hawaiian Affairs and Water and Land, to which was referred S.B. No. 2247 entitled:

 

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO THE MOLOKAI IRRIGATION SYSTEM,"

 

beg leave to report as follows:

 

     The purpose of this measure is to make an appropriation to the Department of Agriculture for the purchase of equipment to be used to maintain the Molokai Irrigation System.

 

     Testimony in support of this measure was submitted by Puakala Farms, Potted Beauties, Coffees of Hawaii, LLC, George Mokuau Farms, Ahupuaa O Molokai, and three individuals.  Testimony in support of the intent of this measure was submitted by the Department of Agriculture and Department of Hawaiian Home Lands.

 

     Your Committees find that the purchase of equipment is necessary for the maintenance of the Molokai Irrigation System.  Additionally, your Committees request the Department of Agriculture provide to your Committees and the Committee on Ways and Means with a list of all projects related to the Molokai Irrigation System and a cost breakdown for each project.

 

     As affirmed by the records of votes of the members of your Committees on Agriculture and Hawaiian Affairs and Water and Land that are attached to this report, your Committees are in accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No. 2247 and recommend that it pass Second Reading and be referred to the Committee on Ways and Means.
