STAND. COM. REP. NO. 3485

Honolulu, Hawaii

RE:    H.C.R. No. 53

Honorable Colleen Hanabusa

President of the Senate

Twenty-Fourth State Legislature

Regular Session of 2008

State of Hawaii

Madam:

Your Committees on Health and Human Services and Public Housing, to which was referred H.C.R. No. 53 entitled:

"HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE HEALTHCARE ASSOCIATION OF HAWAII TO CONTINUE ITS EFFORTS TO DEVELOP SOLUTIONS TO THE PROBLEM OF PATIENTS IN HOSPITALS WHO ARE WAITLISTED FOR LONG-TERM CARE,"

beg leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this measure is to support the continuation of work being completed by the 2007 Waitlist Task Force created by the Healthcare Association of Hawaii, regarding data analysis in finding solutions to the problem of patients waitlisted for long-term care.

Your Committees received testimony in support of this measure from the Healthcare Association of Hawaii.

Your Committees find that Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 198 that was adopted by the 2007 Legislature requested the Healthcare Association of Hawaii to study the problem of patients being waitlisted for long-term care.  Your Committees further find that the 2007 Waitlist Task Force, created by the Healthcare Association of Hawaii, has completed a substantial amount of work and has submitted a report and proposed legislation that addresses many of the problem areas identified through its research.  However, continued support is necessary to enable the task force to complete its data analysis on additional areas of need that are identified in its December 2007 Waitlist Task Force Report.

As affirmed by the records of votes of the members of your Committees on Health and Human Services and Public Housing that are attached to this report, your Committees concur with the intent and purpose of H.C.R. No. 53, and recommend its adoption.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committees on Health and Human Services and Public Housing,
