     Your Committee on Water and Land, to which was referred Governor's Message No. 616, submitting for study and consideration the nomination of: 

 

Hawaii Community Development Authority (HCDA)

JONATHAN WAI YUN LAI,

for a term to expire 6-30-2012,

 

begs leave to report as follows:

 

     Your Committee has reviewed the personal history, resume, and statement issued by the nominee, and finds Jonathan Wai Yun Lai to have the necessary qualifications to be nominated to the Hawaii Community Development Authority.

 

     Testimony in support of Mr. Lai's nomination was submitted by the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, Hawaii Community Development Authority, Councilmember from District IV of the Honolulu City Council, Goodwill Industries of Hawaii, Inc., Hawaii Central Credit Union, Department of Planning and Permitting of the City and County of Honolulu, First Hawaiian Bank, Hawaii USA Federal Credit Union, Island Title Corporation, and six interested individuals.

 

     Mr. Lai is currently a member and the Chairperson of the Hawaii Community Development Authority.  He is a partner at the law firm of Watanabe, Ing & Komeiji.  Mr. Lai received a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Government from Claremont McKenna College, a Master's degree in Business Administration from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California, and a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Southern California.

 

     As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Water and Land that is attached to this report, your Committee, after full consideration of the background, experience, and qualifications of the nominee, has found the nominee to be qualified for the position to which nominated and recommends that the Senate advise and consent to the nomination.
