Your Committee reviewed the personal history, resume, and statement submitted by the nominee, and finds Julie M.E. Taomia to have the necessary qualifications to be nominated to the Hawai‘i Historic Places Review Board.
Your Committee received testimony in support of Julie M.E. Taomia from the Department of Land and Natural Resources and the President of the Society for Hawaiian Archaeology.
Julie M.E. Taomia is a Senior Cultural Resource Specialist based at the United States Army Pohakuloa Training Area, on the Island of Hawaii, a position she has held since 2006. Ms. Taomia also worked for several years in Pago Pago, American Samoa, as the Owner and Principal Investigator of South Pacific Archaeological Consulting Services, as Senior Archaeologist in the American Samoa Historic Preservation Office, and as a science teacher. She holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Anthropology from the University of California at Berkeley, and a B.A. from the University of Michigan. Ms. Taomia is a member of the Society for Hawaiian Archaeology and is active in community service projects that introduce children to archaeology and history.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Economic Development and Taxation that is attached to this report, your Committee, after full consideration of the background, experience, and qualifications of the nominee, has found the nominee to be qualified for the position to which nominated and recommends that the Senate advise and consent to the nomination.
