     Your Committee on Economic Development and Taxation, to which was referred Governor's Message Nos. 329, 463, 464, 465, and 466, submitting for study and consideration the nominations of:

     Your Committee reviewed the personal histories, resumes, and statements submitted by the nominees, and finds Trevor H. Kainoa Daines, Cecilia K. Akim, Poni Elliot Kamau‘u, Jacqueline Leilani Rossetti, and Maxeen Lauahi Shea to have the necessary qualifications to be nominated to the King Kamehameha Celebration Commission.

 

     Your Committee received testimony in support of Trevor H. Kainoa Daines from the Department of Accounting and General Services, the Chairperson of the King Kamehameha Celebration Commission, and a member of the House of Representatives.

 

     Trevor H. Kainoa Daines is Sales Manager at the Miramar At Waikiki, where he is responsible for wholesale sales, with an emphasis on Australia and New Zealand.  Mr. Daines has extensive experience in the hospitality industry in Hawaii and Las Vegas, and is a member of numerous professional and civic organizations, including the Native Hawaiian Hospitality Association, Hawai‘i Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association, and the Royal Order of Kamehameha, Moku o Hawai‘i Chapter.  Mr. Daines represents the Royal Order of Kamehameha as a new appointment to the Commission.

 

     Your Committee received testimony in support of Cecilia K. Akim from the Department of Accounting and General Services, the Chairperson of the King Kamehameha Celebration Commission, and one individual.

 

     Cecilia K. Akim is a retiree, and is active in community and civic organizations, including the community associations of Punaluu and Laie, and is a member of Ahahui Ka‘ahumanu.  Ms. Akim danced hula for many years with renowned kumu hula Hoakalei Kamau‘u, and served as a kumu hula for the Honolulu Model Cities Program.  She continues to teach hula, cultural studies, and oli, influencing the lives of her many students for the better.  Ms. Akim is an active member of the Commission, where she represents the ‘Ahahui Ka‘ahumanu.

 

     Your Committee received testimony in support of Poni Elliot Kamau‘u from the Department of Accounting and General Services, the Chairperson of the King Kamehameha Celebration Commission, and one individual.

 

     Poni Elliot Kamau‘u is active with the Hawaiian Studies program of the Department of Education, and has been involved with the program for over twenty years.  He is also involved with the Papakolea After-School Program, and is a member of the Papakolea Community Association.  Mr. Kamau‘u has a lifelong interest in perpetuating and preserving the many aspects of Hawaiian culture and brings this commitment to his work with the Commission.  He represents the Papakolea Community Association and is a reappointment to the Commission.

 

     Your Committee received testimony in support of Jacqueline Leilani Rossetti from the Department of Accounting and General Services, the Chairperson of the King Kamehameha Celebration Commission, and two individuals.

 

     Jacqueline Leilani Rossetti is a Senior Program Manager and Grant Writer for the Hawaii Island Economic Development Board.  Well known to Hawaii radio listeners as "Skylark", Ms. Rossetti is a co-founder of the Na Hoku Hanohano Awards, a member of the Board of Governors of the Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts, and the owner of Honolulu Skylark Productions.  She has directed shows and events for Aloha Festivals, Inc., as well as for many halau and nonprofit organizations.  Ms. Rossetti represents the Island of Hawaii as a new appointment to the Commission.

 

     Your Committee received testimony in support of Maxeen Lauahi Shea from the Department of Accounting and General Services, the Chairperson of the King Kamehameha Celebration Commission, the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs, the Hawaiian Civic Club of Honolulu, and three individuals.

 

     Maxeen Lauahi Shea served with the Department of Parks and Recreation, City and County of Honolulu, for thirty-eight years before her retirement in 2005.  She brings to the Commission her organizational experience as a recreation director and supervisor, and her skill in Hawaiian crafts.  Ms. Shea is an active volunteer in many community and civic organizations, including the Friends of Parks and Recreation and the Hawaiian Civic Club.  She represents the Hawaiian Civic Club as a new appointment to the Commission.

 

     As affirmed by the records of votes of the members of your Committee on Economic Development and Taxation that are attached to this report, your Committee, after full consideration of the background, experience, and qualifications of the nominees, has found the nominees to be qualified for the positions to which nominated and recommends that the Senate advise and consent to the nominations.
